September's Numbers: Buyers Hit Pause, Inventory Kept Growing, and Homes Took Their Time
September felt like the market's own back-to-school month. Kids were back in class, routines snapped back into place, and buyers got a lot more selective. After August's surprising surge in pending sales, September cooled off. Fewer homes went under contract, more homes sat on the market, and the ones that did sell took almost two months to get there.
Add mortgage rates climbing back into the 7s, and it's easy to see why. But the story isn't all gloom. A gorgeous, sunny October has made getting out to tour homes a lot more appealing, and for buyers who stayed in the game, this is the most room to negotiate we've seen in a while.
